Episode 165: Humor in Parenting (Epilogue)
Tonight, Laura and Dana talked humor in parenting. Laura caught up with the absolutely hilarious Johanna Stein, originator of the viral "Momhead" video and author of "How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane (And Other Lessons in Parenting Lessons from a Highly Questionable Source)." Jen Mann, creator of the wildly popular "People I Want to Punch in the Throat" website, which is now responsible for a book with the same title. While our kids laugh 300-400 times a day, the average adult only laughs 15-20 times, so listen up and laugh it off!

Episode 162: Raising Thankful Children (Epilogue)
Tonight, Ryan talked gratitude, an apt topic for Thanksgiving week. Gratitude is a virtue that anyone can cultivate, according to Dr. Jeffrey Froh, co-author of Making Grateful Kids, whose interview we heard on the show tonight. His tools for making grateful kids can be used from infancy to troubled-teenagerhood. We learned that recognizing gifts is a skill that can be learned at an early age, and it helps kids to process the things that make them feel grateful. Teaching (and learning!) gratitude can even make you happier.

Episode 161: Smoking During Pregnancy (Epilogue)
Tonight, Laura and Ryan told you about the number one modifiable risk factor in pregnancy: smoking. Nicotine – whether from tobacco or e-cigarettes – constricts blood vessels, which reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrients delivered to the developing fetus. This can contribute to poor fetal development, reduced birth weight, premature birth, fetal or infant death, and behavioral problems which can last beyond childhood. We spoke to Jeanette Robinson, Tobacco Program Manager for the Florida Dept. of Health in Sarasota about the risks of tobacco smoke and ways to quit smoking. Next, Shavon Clark and Chip Schaaff share how the Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota is helping women quit.
