Episode 193: Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood in Pictures (Epilogue)

Tonight, Dana and Ryan were joined by two skilled photographers whose artistic styles could not be more different to talk about double standards and how the art of photography is normalizing the pregnancy, birth, and mothering experience.

Calling in from Tucson, Arizona was photographer Jade Beall. Jade is a proud mother and a world-renowned photographer specializing in truthful images of women to inspire feeling  beautiful as a counter-balance to the airbrushed photo-shopped imagery that dominates mainstream media. Her recent work "A Beautiful Body Project" has touched hundreds of thousands of women's lives and garnered global attention from media outlets including the BBC, The Huffington Post and beyond. Jade's book series and media platform feature untouched photos of women alongside their stories of their journeys to build self-esteem in a world that thrives off women feeling insecure. Jade's dream is to inspire current and future generations of women to be free from the unnecessary self-suffering and embrace their beauty just as they are.

Sarasota-Manatee, Florida photographer Tara Tomlinson. Tara is a full time, self-employed wedding, portrait and newborn photographer with Tara Tomlinson Photography. She is also the mother of three - two teenage daughters and a toddler son. Originally from Sarasota, Florida, Tara graduated from the prestigious Pine View School for the Gifted. Despite all of the adults in her life begging her to go to art school, Tara didn’t begin her career in photography until after leaving the legal field. She now lives the dream of an artist in Bradenton, Florida.

Both photographers shared their personal experience and how photography can change perspectives of beauty, especially for pregnant women and new mothers. In very different styles, the work of both these photographers truly shines a light on the beauty of experiencing motherhood.
